Snow Removal
Joliet has very harsh winters, which can destroy, both, organic and non-organic material. Because plants are living things, when they freeze, it can cause their systems to shut down and die. This leads to your landscaping being wiped out. In addition to this, non-organic matter can also be negatively effected. Sidewalks can bubble and crack, as a result of having water freeze underneath them. Ice can also cause surfaces to become slippery; posing a major threat to people and animals that are walking on your deck, walkways or pavers.
Snow Plow A snow plow is a large device, usually attached to a vehicle, that is used to push snow out of the way. Because plows are used to move vast amounts of snow at a time, we would, obviously, not use these on any organic matter. However, if the snow is sitting on top of your driveway, we can help you out in this manner. Often times a driveway is lining the yard, so we will consider this a part of the landscape design. We can push a plow down your driveway, moving snow off of it, to keep you safe. Shoveling Shoveling is the process of using a hand-powered shovel to dig snow out of your yard. This technique is what we will use to get snow off of your organic matter, as with this process we have more control than we do in snow plowing. For your yard space, and soil in flower boxes, we will use full size shovels to remove the snow. This will take weight off of your grass and help to ensure that it doesn’t freeze and die. For your plants and flowers, we will use hand trowels to gently knock off snow, so that your flowers and plants can persist through the cold. De-Icing If your landscape design includes a patio/deck or walkway, it will, most likely, need to be de-iced during the winter months. In de-icing, we lay down a special rock salt which helps to quickly, and efficiently, melt ice away. This process ensures that your surfaces are not slick. While decks and patios will probably not be used during winter, your walkways certainly will be. To make sure that no accidents result from slipping, give us a call and let us come out de-ice for you. Consequences of Snow/Ice The consequences of snow and ice, during harsh winter months, are numerous. Snow can freeze your trees, plants and flowers, causing them to die. This can result in your plants and flowers being decimated, which means that, when winter passes, you may need to buy all new plants and flowers. With trees, ice can cause limbs to freeze and break off; resulting in damage or injury. With deck and patios and walkways, snow can lead to ice forming, which can cause people to slip and injure themselves. For these reasons, we are always ready to come out and assist you it’s snow removal in your yard. |
